Meet The Faces Behind Lumina Eye Care

We are Dr. Maggie Fung and Dr. Joanna Yu, the proud owners of Lumina Eye Care.

We look forward to sharing our story with you, and we hope you will enjoy getting to know us better.

We were classmates in school, and graduated from the University of Waterloo School of Optometry and Vision Science in 2011. We have always wanted to open a full scope practice to provide personal and quality eye care to patients. In 2015, we launched Lumina Eye Care in Thornhill, Ontario. Our grand opening was exciting as it took many months of planning and preparation to launch our practice.

When we started our practice, we began from scratch (i.e., with no patient base). Though it was challenging in the start, our practice is growing every year with the support of the community and our patients. Lumina Eye Care is constantly evolving by investing in the newest technology to provide comprehensive and excellent eye care. In addition, we both have a special interest in myopia (nearsightedness) control to help children slow down the rate of myopia progression.      

We love seeing our patients, especially our young patients, and watching them grow. We find it very rewarding to help our patients see. Sight is such a vital human sense that it is irreplaceable, which is a reason we value and have pride in our profession. We strive to provide excellent eye care while maintaining high standards of professionalism, integrity, and sincerity. Our patients appreciate the care and details of our services as they make them feel comfortable and valued.  

Our partnership is compatible as we draw from each other’s strengths to build a successful practice. With the support from our families, friends, and patients, they have helped the continual growth of Lumina Eye Care. We are fortunate to have each other to consult with as doctors and business partners as we have similar values and standards of practice.   

In our spare time, Dr. Maggie Fung enjoys spending time with her family. She is also a big foodie who loves to sample all kinds of exciting food. Dr. Joanna Yu enjoys spending time with her family as well. She enjoys travelling and would love to travel around the world one day.
